Biography
Philip Gachassin, MD, MHCM, FACS, FASMBS completed residency in general surgery at the University of South Alabama. He completed undergraduate studies at Tulane University, medical education at Louisiana State University School of Medicine, and Master’s in Health Care Management at the Harvard TH Chan School of Public Health. He founded the Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Program at Ochsner Lafayette General Medical Center and Acadiana Weight Loss Surgery in Lafayette Louisiana in 2004. Dr. Gachassin serves as chair of a multi specialty group of surgeons who own and operate surgical hospitals and ambulatory surgical centers. He has a passion for increasing access to bariatric surgery He founded a bariatric surgery program for the traditionally underserved in Louisiana. Dr. Gachassin serves as Executive Director of the Louisiana Bariatric Surgery Association which actively lobbies for increased access in Louisiana. Dr. Gachassin holds academic appointment in the LSU School of Medicine, Department of Surgery, and serves as site director for surgical residents in Lafayette, LA. Dr. Gachassin spends free time with his wife and three sons in the outdoors of Louisiana and Colorado.
