Biography

Dr. Scott is a Clinical Professor of Surgery with the University of South Carolina School of Medicine Greenville and the Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Director for the bariatric surgical program of Prisma Health. He also serves as the Chief for the Division of Minimal Access and Bariatric Surgery for the Prisma Health Department of Surgery and the Program Director for Prisma Health Minimally Invasive Surgery (MIS) fellowship program. Dr. Scott holds a Bachelor of Arts in biology from Baylor University and a Master of Science in molecular cell sciences from the University of Memphis. He received his medical degree from the University of Tennessee and then completed his residency in Greenville, South Carolina. He went on to complete a fellowship in advanced minimally invasive surgery at the University of Cincinnati. In addition to his duties with Prisma Health, he serves as an at-large member of the Executive Council and has previously served as the president of the Bariatric Society of the Carolinas, the Chairman of the ASMBS Program Committee, the Chairman of the ASMBS Access to Care Committee, and as a member of the South Carolina Medical Association Childhood Obesity Taskforce. He is currently the representative for the ASMBS in the American Medical Association House of Delegates and sits on the board of directors for the ObesityPAC and the Obesity Action Coalition. He is an editorial board member for Surgery for Obesity and Related Disease. Dr. Scott is board-certified in General Surgery and has Focused Practice Designation in bariatric surgery. He is a Diplomate for the American Board of Obesity Medicine and remains active in the American College of Surgeons (ACS) and the Southern Surgical Association. He is a fellow of the ACS and the ASMBS.
